Thinking Ahead to Sixth Form

THE NEXT STEP

This information is designed to give Year 12 pupils and parents/carers information about the courses which are offered in Sixth Form and to provide some assistance in choosing suitable courses of study.

The decision to return to Laurelhill for a further two years will depend largely upon performance in GCSE Examinations.

It must be stressed that admission to Advanced Level courses is not automatic and normally a points system will operate.

For the ethos of Sixth Form to be maintained it is essential for each pupil to maximise his or her talents and aptitudes.

Each student will be allocated supervised study in school, but much time will be spent studying at home.  The study of chosen subjects should be an intrinsic motivating reward.

Head Boy

Hi, I’m Benji Parker, and I’m proud to be Head Boy at Laurelhill Community College.

I’m someone who loves getting involved in school life and making the most of every opportunity. Over the years, I’ve taken part in lots of different aspects of school life; whether that’s been through football, sport, school events, performances, open nights, or helping other pupils. I enjoy being someone people can come to for help, and I want to make sure pupils feel comfortable and supported in school.

Football and sport have always been a big part of my life. I enjoy playing football, going to the gym; and being involved in different sports. Being part of a team has taught me a lot about working with others, communicating, staying positive; and helping people around me. These are skills that I want to bring into my role as Head Boy.

I’m also a Sports Mentor, which has given me the chance to support and encourage younger pupils. I really enjoy helping others and seeing people become more confident and involved. I think being a good role model is an important part of being Head Boy.

I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity and being involved in as much as I can throughout the year. I want to help make school a place where everyone feels welcome, listened to, and proud to be part of Laurelhill.

Outside of school, I enjoy playing football, going to the gym, gaming, and spending time with friends and family. In the future, I hope to become a PE teacher, so being Head Boy is a great opportunity for me to build my confidence, leadership skills; and experience working with others.

Head Girl

My name is Rebekah Boyd and this academic year I have the honour and privilege of filling the role of Head Girl at Laurelhill Community College.

During my time at Laurelhill I have always felt safe; and I have been encouraged in both my academic pursuits and my interests outside of the classroom. I credit this to the incredible staff and pastoral care team who have championed me to achieve my very best. With their endless support I have been able to explore every avenue of college life and celebrate many successes along the way.

I have had so many incredible experiences throughout my years in Laurelhill, through both the academic and extra-curricular opportunities. This has included being a member of the school netball team and exploring my creativity in Art club and Baking Club. I have the privilege of mentoring young pupils within the college in my role as a Well-Being Ambassador and also through participation in Scripture Union. In Year 13 I had the opportunity to complete the Sisters IN project through which I organised a charity “Colour Run”.

I have also had the joy of going on a number of school trips. These included a netball team trip; and the amazing opportunity to attend the Commonwealth Service in Westminster Abbey. I will cherish my memories of these wonderful experiences.

As Head Girl I wish to be someone that younger pupils can look up to, a friendly face in the corridors and a representative of our school’s core values. I that that through this role, and with the support of my teachers and peers, I can give just as much back to Laurelhill as it has given and continues to give me. I will encourage all pupils to embrace every opportunity that will come their way.
